Diagnosis

Mesoscutum and scutellum metallic bluish-purple; mesoscutum with raised and rather weak reticulation, midlobe with posterior ½ with engraved reticulation, notauli as narrow and distinct grooves medially; male scape white and inflated, 1.3X as long as wide. Female similar to hipparchius, but vertex with a median groove, flagellomeres slightly longer, e.g. 1st flagellomere 2.1X as long as wide; the male of inflatus is very distinct due to strongly flattened scape. Also similar to bryoscapus but propodeum with submedian grooves smooth and shiny, and male scape more stout.

Biology

From leafminers: Brachys nr emperatrix (Coleoptera: Buprestidae), Brachys sp. on Gouania polygama (Rhamnaceae), unidentified Buprestidae leafminer, Tischeria sp. (Lepidoptera: Tischeriidae) and Lepidoptera indet., all on Cecropia insignis (Cecropiaceae); Lepidoptera leafminer on an unidentified Melastomataceae; Lepidoptera leafminer on Piper sp. (Piperaceae); unidentified Chrysomelidae (Coleoptera) on Aristolochia leaf (Aristolochiaceae).

Similar species in Lucid key

crassicornis, but inflatus with flagellum slender, e.g. with first flagellomere 1.0X as wide as width of pedicel.

cupreus, but inflatus with propodeum with submedian grooves smooth.
